Are you a looking for Driving Lessons in Perth?

Based in Luncarty, we also cover the villages of Stanley, Bankfoot, Bertha Park and Methven.

Our driving lessons will help learner drivers become confident drivers and be taught not just to pass the driving test but to give drivers the skills required to keep you safe for a lifetime.

As each of us are different, we will tailor each lesson to the persons ability and personality.

Being a driving instructor means that we are constantly thinking on the go and changing lessons schedules, to suit each individual person, on that particular day.

However, we do keep within reason to a lesson schedule, so that both of us know what we have covered, and where we have reached in our lesson together and what we expect from you in the next lesson.

We will try to make lessons enjoyable and informative, whilst adding to your ‘toolbox of skills ” with the aim of you becoming a safe, knowledgable and defensive driver for life. We always use “what, why and how procedure”. What the issue is, why it is not a good driving habit and the consequences of what could happen but I will always explain how we can fix it.

We believe if you understand the risks, then you will become a better driver.

There is no such person as the perfect driver but we will try my utmost to get you to a very high standard not just to pass the test but for your lifetime driving behind the wheel.

We believe in keeping roadside lessons to a minimum as I find the best way of learning is to be driving and experiencing different road and traffic conditions.

Beginner/Novice Lessons

What to expect from your first driving lesson

It’s finally here! The day you get behind the wheel for what is probably the first time. It’s a big day for you and it can be quite daunting.

It does help if you know what to expect beforehand, so make sure you prepare. You will pick up things much easier if they are familiar to you and you feel confident about what happens next.

Before your lesson

  • Double check where and when you’re being picked up
  • Do NOT drink alcohol the night before
  • Get some sleep
  • If it an early lesson remember to have some breakfast
  • Choose comfortable non-slip shoes, shoes with thick soles are not ideal, Converse style are best as they have a thin sole.
  • Take glasses of use contact lenses if you need them
  • Remember your provisional licence

The pick-up

Don’t worry, you are not going to have to get in the driving seat straight away.
Your instructor will drive you to a quiet training area for you to get to grips with the basics.

The cockpit drill

When you have arrived at a quiet road with low traffic volume, your instructor will get you to change seating position so you are in the driving seat. Your instructor will then explain the cockpit drill to introduce you to the checks you’ll need to do every time you drive.

  • Doors securely closed?
  • Seat in a comfortable position?
  • Steering position established?
  • Seatbelts on?
  • Mirrors adjusted properly?

The Controls

Next, you will get an explanation of the clutch, accelerator and brake pedals, how to use the handbrake, indicators and how to change gear.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions or if you want your instructor to run through the controls again.

Don’t worry too much, your instructor will talk you through everything as you go.

For your first lesson, a 2 hour lesson is best so you have a chance to learn your controls and get some driving in too.

The Road

It is now time to drive. Before you start the engine, your instructor will explain a few key procedures:

  • Moving off: getting ready to use your gears
  • Clutch control including finding the biting point
  • Checking your mirrors and blind spot
  • Signalling with the indicators
  • Changing gears
  • Stopping the car, covering the brake and the clutch and when to use them
  • Parking at the kerb safely

Try to relax and remember that your instructor has their own set of controls so you can focus on learning. You may make mistakes, just dont panic.

Subsequent Lessons

After your first lesson your instructor will gradually introduce further learning subjects, all of which will be introduced and taught at a pace tailored to suit the individual.

Subjects covered during subsequent lessons:

  • Approaching junctions to turn left/right
  • Emerging at T Junctions
